Application For Freeport Exemption Inventory

Form:PT-50PF
Who Should File:Businesses desiring freeport exemption in the counties and municipalities where available.
When to File:The same time property tax returns are due in the county.  In most counties returns are required to be filed by April 1, although a few counties require returns to be filed by March3.  After these dates freeport applications can be filed until June 1, but with a partial exemption.  Click here for more information.
Submit To:The Board of  Tax Assessors
Instructions:To accompany the Business Personal Property Tax Return (Form PT-50P) when filing for freeport exemption.  Inventory is reported at full cost at level of trade as of January 1.  Property subject to freeport exemption includes:
  • Raw materials and goods in process of manufacture
  • Finished goods produced in Georgia within the last 12 months
  • Finished goods stored in Georgia no longer than 12 months and destined for shipment out-of-state
  • Note:  Normally manufacturers would not apply for inventory exemption based on percentage shipped out-of-state as this would be for wholesale distributors.

For more instructions see form PT-50PF.
