| How do I figure the tax on my vehicle? When are property taxes due on my vehicle? Why does a non-resident military person stationed in Georgia have to pay ad valorem taxes on a leased vehicle? Who do I contact about motor vehicle tags and titles? Can I deduct the tax paid on my vehicle from my income tax return? How do I figure the tax on my vehicle?
The formula to figure the tax on a vehicle is: | [40% * FMV] * millage rate = tax due. |
For a person that owns a vehicle with a valuation of $20,000 in a city where the tax rate is 30 mills, the property tax would be $240.00. Multiply $20,000 by 40% which is equal to the assessed value of $8,000. Then multiply $8,000 by .03000 which is equal to $240.00.
