A new fraud hot line has been established for practitioners and taxpayers to report tax related activities that they believe are illegal or incorrect. The hot line can be used to report suspected illegal activity for all tax types: income, withholding, corporate, sales tax, stolen refunds, etc. Persons submitting reports can either provide their name or remain anonymous.

More Thorough Scrutiny of Returns

In a continuing effort to ensure individuals and businesses comply with Georgia’s tax statutes, and to level the playing field for all taxpayers, the Department of Revenue has established a new system to more thoroughly review returns. New computer edits have been added that will flag suspicious returns. These returns will be reviewed by Department personnel to determine if they should be referred to investigators. The targets for this activity are persons who prepare and file frivolous and/or fraudulent returns.
