TAXPAYER SERVICES DIVISION
GEORGIA ELECTRONIC FILING INFORMATION

Georgia accepts electronic filing of Forms 500 and 500EZ from all taxpayers regardless of their filing or residency status, including refund and balance due returns. We will begin accepting tax year 2007 forms on or after January 11, 2008. Georgia individual income tax returns may be submitted using approved electronic filing software. Click here to view a list of approved software companies.

Electronic Return Originators (ERO) and preparers are not required to register with the Georgia Department of Revenue for approval to file electronically.  ERO's and preparers who have been approved by the IRS are automatically approved to submit Georgia returns electronically.

Some of the benefits of electronic filing include:

  • Faster and more accurate processing.
  • Individual taxpayers who file electronically can receive their refund by mail or direct deposit.
  • The ability to file from your home PC or have your taxes prepared by a professional electronic return originator.
  • Elimination of mailing paper returns. Retain Forms GA-8453 and all other forms and documents for your records.
  • Individual Income transmissions of "state only" returns. (The term "state only" means the software supports transmission of the state return separately from the federal return. However, the federal return must be transmitted first. Visit the companies' websites to determine whether they support state only filing.)

If you file electronically and need to make a payment, you have the following payment options:

  • Pay by ACH debit using the e-File and e-Pay system.  You do not need to be registered to use the e-File and e-Pay system.  Click here to access the e-File and e-Pay system.
  • Pay with a credit card. Click here for more information about this payment method.
  • Mail your payment with the Payment Voucher ( Form 525-TV) to the address on the voucher. You can print this form from your software program or obtain it from our website. It is critical that you use this form to ensure that your payment is properly applied.

NOTE: If you pay with a credit card, do not mail the payment voucher. Credit cards are not accepted for payments associated with extensions, installment payment agreements, or amended returns.

The Department of Revenue encourages electronic filing; however, we neither support nor recommend any software company. You must address technical and support issues with the company whose product you select. For additional electronic filing information, you can contact the E-file Help Desk at gaelf@dor.ga.gov.
